On 17 September 2023 Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi formally introduced the Central Sector Scheme PM Vishwakarma. Additionally, events are scheduled for that same day at roughly seventy locations across the nation in an effort to raise awareness among possible recipients. The Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying in Mangalore, Karnataka, hosted these esteemed national-level events as Chief Guest, Shri Parshottam Rupala, Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying.
He also highlighted that the scheme will help all our traditional artisans and craftsman in all the sectors especially in fisheries sector. The Union Minister emphasized that both boat makers and fish net makers will reap the rewards of this scheme. With a total outlay of Rs 13,000 Crores, this initiative is poised to create significant income-generating opportunities for fishermen and their families, enabling them to ascend the ladder of success.
Despite developments in technology, traditional artisans, or vishwakarmas, continue to play a vital role in society.
It is imperative to acknowledge, assist, and incorporate these craftspeople into the worldwide supply network.
